Student Volunteer Program

The Mendel Center student volunteer corps is committed to upholding professionalism and consistency in meeting patrons’ needs, and to fostering an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere reflective of the rich diversity of Michigan’s Great Southwest.

The student volunteer corps is open to all current high school and college students. Performing arts experience is not necessary, but an interest in music or theatrical performance certainly makes the job more enjoyable! All volunteers are representatives of the theater, and we say they are “part of the show” whenever they are on duty. Therefore, we are looking for mature, positive individuals who enjoy working with people.

Not only do volunteers assist with Mainstage season performances, they are on hand to make sure many other events go smoothly including the Lake Michigan College commencement ceremony, student performances and recitals, Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan events, Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra performances, Blossomtime festivities, and much, much more.

Typical duties include:

  • Ticket takers
  • Playbill attendants
  • Ushers
  • Lobby hosts/greeters
  • Assistants for handicapped patron
  • Will Call attendants
  • Coat room attendants
  • Concessions sales
  • Artist merchandise sales
