Welcome to The Mendel Center!  We’re thrilled you’re joining us for a show or an event and have answers to our most frequently asked questions listed below to help you have the best possible experience.  If you’d like to personally speak with a Mendel Center representative, please call the box office at 269-927-1221, and a representative will be happy to answer all of your questions.  The box office is open Monday through Friday from 2 PM – 6 PM and one hour prior to the show and select events.

Where is the Mendel Center?

The GPS navigation address for The Mendel Center is 1100 Yore Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.  The Mendel Center ‘s mailing address is 2755 East Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor, MI 49022.  The Mendel Center is most easily accessed by turning left onto Yore Avenue off of Napier Avenue when heading from Interstate 94 then turning left at the third drive for Hanson Theatre and Mainstage events or left at the fourth drive for Grand Upton Hall and Louis Deckmann Studio events.

 

Where should I park?

Free parking is available on the north and south sides of The Mendel Center. Handicap parking is available in various locations on each side of the building.

If your event is in the Mainstage, Hanson Theatre, 3rd floor meeting rooms, or music and theater academic classrooms, the south parking lot (Parking Lot B) will be most convenient.

If your event is in the Grand Upton Hall, 2-way classroom, North Training Room F-101, F-102, F-103, F-111, or the Louis Deckmann Studio, the north parking lot (Parking Lot A) will be most convenient.

 

Do you offer valet parking?

 

Yes.  Valet parking is available for all Mainstage brochure shows and select other events.  The charge for valet parking is $3 per car.  Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 to confirm that valet parking will be offered during your event.

 

Where can I purchase tickets to upcoming shows and events?

 

Tickets are available online at www.TheMendelCenter.com and through the box office.  Click here to purchase tickets online.  The box office is open Monday through Friday from 2 PM – 6 PM and one  hour prior to show time.

 

Why is there a facility fee?

The facility fee helps cover operating expenses including utilities, repairs and replacements. custodial services, etc.

 

 

 

I already purchased tickets and have a question.  Who can I contact?

We’re happy to answer all of your questions.  Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 or stop by.  The box office is open Monday through Friday from 2 PM – 6 PM and one  hour prior to show time.

 

What if the show is cancelled due to weather or production issues?

The safety of our patrons and performers is of utmost priority at The Mendel Center.  If a show is cancelled due to weather or production issues, we do our best to reschedule the show.  If the show is rescheduled and you are not able to attend, you will receive a refund for the ticket purchase price.  If the show is not able to be rescheduled, all patrons will receive a refund for the ticket purchase price.  All refunds are processed through the box office.

 

Can I return or exchange my tickets?

All tickets are sold as non-refundable and non-exchangeable.  Mainstage Series Members have the exclusive privilege of the ability to exchange tickets.

 

I have a small child who doesn’t need his or her own seat.  Do I have to buy a ticket for him or her?

Yes. All patrons must have a ticket, including lap-sitting infants and children. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in The Mendel Center. For the benefit of all patrons, children who cause disruptions or are unable to sit quietly may be relocated or asked to leave.

 

How can I retrieve something I lost, left, or forgot?

Lost and Found items are kept at the box office for one month.  Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 or stop by to see if your item has been found.  The box office is open Monday through Friday from 2 PM – 6 PM and one  hour prior to show time.

 

Can I take pictures or video during the show?

Please refrain from doing so.  Photography, video, and other recording devices are contractually prohibited during most Mendel Center Mainstage performances unless otherwise specified.  Sit back, relax, and experience it live!

 

Can I take food and beverages into the theatre?

Out of courtesy to other patrons and to preserve the Mainstage and Hanson theatre facilities, food is not allowed in the theatres. Beverages are allowed only in LMC Mendel Center no-spill souvenir cups available for purchase in the lobby before select shows.  Souvenir cups are available at the bar and concession stand.

 

I’m running late to the show; can I still come in?
Every effort is made to start performances at the published time. We ask that you arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the show start time. Late arriving patrons will be seated only at times designated by the artists and their management, and may be directed to seats near the back of the theatre until intermission.

 

What should I do with my cell phone or pager during the show?
Out of courtesy to the performers and other patrons, the use of cell phones and other electronic devices is prohibited during performances. Please silence phones, pagers, alarm watches, and other distracting electronic equipment prior to the start of the performance. Also, please do not talk or whisper during the performances. This can also be disruptive to the performers and other patrons.

 

Does the Mendel Center sell alcoholic beverages?

Yes, the Mendel Center does sell alcoholic beverages including beer and wine at a cash bar during most Mainstage shows and select other events.  The bar closes at the end of intermission.  Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 to confirm that a cash bar will be available during your event.

 

Where are the restrooms?

Restrooms are located in both the North and South lower lobbies.  They are accessible by stairs and elevator.

In the balcony, the Women’s restroom is located on the South side of the building (near Aisle 1) and the Men’s restroom is located on the North side of the building (Aisle 4).

 

Do you have an ATM at the venue?

Yes.  The ATM is located in the center of the Mainstage lobby.

 

Do you have a hearing-assist system?

Yes.  We have Williams Sound Hearing Devices for use in the Mainstage at no charge.  These devices are available at the box office one hour prior to the show.

 

Is this venue handicap accessible?

Yes.  The Mendel Center works to ensure everyone has access to the arts.  Handicap accessible doors are available at each entrance, all restrooms are handicap accessible, and handicap seating is available at all Mainstage shows and by request at all Grand Upton Hall and Louis Deckmann Studio events.  Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 to learn more about seating options in the Mainstage or the front desk at 269-927-8100 to learn more about seating option in Grand Upton Hall and the Louis Deckmann Studio.

 

What should I wear to the show or event?

Please wear whatever makes you comfortable to enjoy the show or event!  Please use your best judgement regarding appropriate clothing.

 

Where are the elevators located?

The Mendel Center has three floors plus the Mainstage lobby. All levels are accessible by stairs and elevator. Elevators are located to the left and right of the Mainstage theatre entrance doors.

 

Do you sell concessions during the shows or events?

We sell concessions including chips, cookies, candy bars, juice, water, and crackers at all Mainstage shows and select other events. Please call the box office at 269-927-1221 to confirm that concessions will be offered during your event.  The concession stand closes at the end of intermission.

 

When do the doors open?

The theatre doors typically open 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the show or event.  The lobby opens one hour prior to the scheduled start time.

 

May I smoke while I’m here?

The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College is located on a smoke-free campus.  All smoking, including e-cigarettes, is prohibited.  Smoking and/or vaping are only permitted in your personal vehicle while on the Lake Michigan College campus.

 

Do you have a weapons policy?

Yes.  The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College is a weapons-free campus.  Please leave all weapons including firearms, knives and other edged weapons locked in the trunk of your personal vehicle.  If you accidentally forget to remove your weapon before entering the Mendel Center, please return to your car and secure your weapon in the trunk.

Patrons who do not comply with Lake Michigan College’s weapon-free policy will be asked to leave and escorted off the premises by security.
