PRESENTED BY THE LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT
Jenkins Theatre
Free admission; ticket not required
The Lake Michigan College choral ensembles, along with several guest vocal groups, will pay tribute to American music during A Journey of American Voices at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, on the LMC Mendel Center Jenkins Theatre stage.
The concert will explore American music’s rich tapestry, spanning from the earliest roots in traditional folk music, camp songs, and gospel to the vibrant landscapes of jazz, musical theatre, and blues. The performance will showcase the depth and diversity of the evolution of choral music.
Lake Michigan College's three choral ensembles—the LMC Concert Choir, Vocal Chamber, and Vox LMC, directed by Rebecca Derbas-Selvidge—will be joined by area guest choirs including South Haven High School Chorale, directed by Katie Hillyard; Southwestern Michigan College’s Ucelli Canori and Tenor/Bass Choir, directed by Dave Carew; and Chorllennium, a collaborative group of local choir educators and choir members also directed by Carew.
The concert will reach its powerful culmination with Robert Ray's Gospel Mass, bringing together all participating ensembles. Guest artists Andrew Fisher and Friends will lead the mass, with Fisher and selected choir members featured as soloists.
This musical journey is open to the public. Admission is free and tickets are not required for this live concert event.
